Polysaccharides benefits

What are polysaccharides?

Polysaccharides are polymeric carbohydrate molecules consisting of monosaccharide units in long chains held together by glycosidic bonds. Also known as glycans, they are basically a class of carbohydrates that are conventional sources of energy.

Polysaccharide Benefits & Where They can be Found

A great source of polysaccharides is found in the Agaricus blazei mushroom. The mushroom Agaricus blazei Murill contains water-soluble polysaccharides referred to as WSP-AbN. Researchers from various universities collaboratively explored the anti-inflammatory properties of these polysaccharides by testing them on ovariectomized osteopenic rats. The rats were given WSP-AbM orally for a period of 8 weeks and the researchers found that the polysaccharides in Agaricus blazei have anti-inflammatory properties which work in the presence of osteoporosis(1). It was found that the administration of WSP-AbN on the rats significantly reduces polymorphonuclear infiltration.

Polysaccharides for Immune Health

Additionally, the polysaccharide benefits found in Agaricus blazei, specifically, beta glucans content, has the ability to modulate the immune system. This mushroom also has alpha glucans which are also great for boosting immunity(4). That is why this mushroom species has become one of the most popular nutritional products among clients in Japan. In fact, in Japan, Agaricus blazei is one of the most commonly used health foods used by patients according to a 2001 nationwide survey sponsored by Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. It is also estimated to be used by over around half a million Japanese dependents(6).

Many of them understand the importance of maintaining healthy immune system during their health battles. Dr. Toru Abo, M.D. has done great educational work in promoting the importance of healthy immune system in Japan by publishing several books that helped many understand the importance of maintaining healthy immune systems and holistic ways to modulate the immune systems by changing diets, habits, and lifestyles(7).

Help Support Healthy Blood Glucose Levels & Cellular Health

Moreover, the Agaricus blazei mushroom is believed to possess direct antiviral properties in cell culture(2). It may also provide benefits for those who suffer from high cholesterol levels as it can inhibit pathogenic factors as well as angiogenesis(3). In addition to this, there has been clinical and animal research that suggests that the consumption of the Agaricus blazei mushroom can lead to lower levels of blood glucose and may likewise improve insulin resistance(5).

Agaricus BioNatural Superfood Supplement

Agaricus blazei has long been marketed as a superfood. There have been a number of studies that show that it can deliver desirable results, especially on account of the healthy polysaccharide benefits it contains. If you intend to buy an Agaricus blazei supplement, though, you need to make sure that what you are getting is of excellent quality. For example, >55% of Agaricus Bio 600mg is naturally occurring polysaccharides.
