Benefits of Matcha Green Tea on Prostate Health
Matcha green tea has been gaining some attention recently for its purported health benefits. It is regarded as the healthiest green tea because of the way it is grown and processed, which allows it to retain the highest levels of antioxidants. One of the health benefits attributed to matcha green tea is its reported positive effect on prostate health. It is reportedly capable of supporting prostate health and is even associated with the slowing down of unhealthy cell growth.
This prostate health benefit of matcha green tea is attributed to its higher levels of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Matcha green tea contains more EGCG than any other green tea because of the special way it is being grown, harvested, handled, and processed. A number of studies support the prostate health benefit claims of matcha green tea and green tea in general.
A 2008 study by the JPHC Study Group found that green tea consumption (5 cups or more daily) is associated with a dose-dependent reduction in the risk of advanced prostate health issue. The researchers concluded that the regular drinking of green tea may have an effect in reducing the risk of advanced prostate unhealthy cells. On the other hand, a 2000 study at the Case Western Reserve University Department of Anatomy found that green tea consumption can be associated with the slowing down of prostate unhealthy cell growth. This growth reduction is again attributed to EGCG as it causes antiproliferative effects in androgen-sensitive and androgen-insensitive human prostate unhealthy cells.
Moreover, a 2009 study supported the role of EGCG in mitigating prostate health risk. Data from animal models for this study showed that EGCG decreased the viability of unhealthy cells and promoted apoptosis in multiple mutated cell lines, without significant effects on non-mutated cell lines. The administration of green tea polyphenols on drinking water was also found to delay the development and progression of serious prostate health challenges. These findings have led to the conclusion that green tea may serve as a powerful natural agent to support prostate health
Try and Make it a Habit
Prostate health is something every adult male should be paying attention to. For those who are at risk of developing prostate unhealthy cells, in particular, it would make sense making the consumption of matcha green tea or even standard green tea a habit. A number of research studies support the potential good effects without serious side effects. It shouldn’t be a wrong decision adopting a green tea habit.
